  • Pryor - Variations on Blue Bells of Scotland
  • Beethoven - Symphony No.3 “Erioca”

Ian Bousfield

Although Ian Bousfield currently lives in Switzerland, York is his home town so it will be a double pleasure for us to welcome him to the Barbican for this concert.  The David Concertino is a delightful but rarely played piece; the Pryor variations are insanely difficult but fantastic to listen to!

The other main piece for this concert will be the Beethoven Eroica symphony - a surprising first performance for the YGO.  Berlioz will be represented by his overture Les Francs-Juges, full of grandeur and fizz - and of course with trombones to the fore!

Saturday, 19th May, 2018, 7:30pm
York Barbican

  • Shostakovich - Festive Overture
  • Tchaikovsky - Violin Concerto No.1
  • Berlioz - Symphonie  Fantastique

Simon Wright - Conductor
Jack Liebeck - Violin
Fiona Love - Leader

See below for information on tickets and parking

Jack Liebeck

It will be a privilege to welcome this young man to play the Tchaikovsky concerto with us - he is a fabulous player and we are delighted to have secured his appearance and introduce him to a York audience.  The Tchaikovsky is a well-known stalwart of  the violin concerto repertoire, but be assured, Jack will bring his own fresh interpretation.

The Shostakovich is a favourite of the orchestra - great fun to play with splendid tunes.  To finish the concert, we will perform Berlioz's
semi-autobiographical programme work, the Symphonie Fantastique - which explores the tribulations of a young musician hopelessly in love.
